Stanway Barn
Built in the 14th Century for storing the tithes due to Tewkesbury Abbey, this traditional stone barn in a beautiful rural setting is available for wedding receptions, parties and other functions. The stone roof is supported by massive base crucks (crucks, that is, which go only as high as the collars, not to the ridge) and by arched wind-braces.
The timbers are of oak and, with
the exception of two wind-braces and of most of the rafters, are
original. The slit windows in the
gable-ends admitted fresh air and the owls needed to control vermin. The
curious stone finials at either end of the roof-ridge and on the midstrey (the
projecting porch) are said to represent coxcombs, symbolic of St Peter, to whom
Stanway Church is dedicated.

Woodchester Mansions
Woodchester Mansion is a 19th Century Victorian Gothic masterpiece, mysteriously abandoned mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This Grade I Listed building has been saved from dereliction, but will never be completed. The Mansion is secluded in the heart of 400-acre Woodchester Park, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The Park is managed by the National Trust and offers visitors the perfect opportunity to explore unspoilt woodland and enjoy native wildlife including deer, badgers, buzzards, kingfishers and woodpeckers. The ancient woodland is home to bluebells, wild garlic and rare species of orchid.
In May 2010 the Mansion acquired
a licence to hold Civil Marriages & Partnerships, so the Mansion is now
available to book for a Woodchester Wedding!
